The Ewe Association formally Milenorvisi Haborbor was created in 1974. The Ewe Association of Chicago Incorporated in year 2002 in conjunction with its president, Mr. Charles Hodogbey,organized a fundraiser at the Hilton Hotel on Harrison and Ashland Avenue, Chicago to support the Children Hospital in Ho, in the Volta region of Ghana, West Africa.

The Ewe Association, in conjunction with its president, Mr. McGeoffrey Kutor in June this year, 2011, sent 20 used computers to be distributed to the following primary schools in Tegbi, in the Volta Region of Ghana

1. Tegbi E. P Primary School;
2. Tegbi Kpota R. C. Primary School;
3. Tegbi Ashiata Primary School; and
4. Tegbi Agbedrafor Primary School

Milenorvisi Haborbor celebrated its 21st Anniversary in 1995. This anniversary was attended by Ewe communities from Washington DC, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, etc. and led to the revitalization of “CEANA”. Had this anniversary celebration not taken place, we may not have CEANA as it is today. The Ewe Association of Chicago also created the Chicago Cultural Troupe. To achieve this, the Association bought a set of African drums and musical equipment. An album of the inauguration of this event can be viewed at the albums area of this website, with the drums in the background. The cultural troupe’s major performances have been a showcase at every GhanaFest. It would suffice to mention that the cultural skills of these young kids took them as far as to Milwaukee, etc and the resulting revenue it has generated for the Association has over the period been an economic backbone for the Association. When the Association needed to solidify the cultural footing based on the culture of our fathers, the first chief (Togbe Venya 1, known in private life as Mr. Kwame Ampofo) was installed with full pageantry in 1993. Tsiamito TogbeVenyawas Amega Gilbert Ntow. The Awadada was Togbui Kafui Amegashie. It is of interest to note that Togbi’s name was written as Venya instead of Wenya to make the pronunciation sound similar or equal to the original tone as the Ewedomes do. The name, however, is usually written as Wenya as the Ewes of southern Ghana do. It is on record that the Ewe Association of Chicago was the only CEANA member association to contribute financially to the CEANA’s coffers by presenting a check to the CEANA Secretariat from the net gains of that

A Benefits Program, generally called the Welfare Program and its bye-laws was created. This program pays two thousand dollars ($2,000) to members who lose their fathers or mothers as the association’s contribution towards defraying the cost of the members’ funeral expenses. The program also pays one thousand dollars ($1000) to members who are celebrating a new birth to the family. There have been two payments each to members to date. The welfare bye-laws were prepared and promulgated by a committee of the following members:

Upon the completion of its work a permanent welfare committee was established, current members of which include:
